Top 5 Golf Courses In The World

The Open Championship is being played this weekend (July 16-19) at St. Andrews, so we thought it befitting to put together a list of the best golf courses around the world. With so many great golf courses on offer worldwide, it’s not any easy task to pick one above another but below are what we believe to be the top 5 golf courses in the world today.

Augusta National (Georgia, USA)

Steeped in history, the Augusta National has been the scene to many spectacular golf tournaments filled with excitement and drama. Combine this with it’s aesthetics, challenging design and the fact it’s famous throughout the world and you have the perfect course. Hosting the Masters tournament every year, the Augusta National is a regular fixture every year for players and fans alike.

Pine Valley Golf Club (New Jersey, USA)

Another course that’s full of history, the Pine Valley Golf Club features everything a golf club should offer, from bunkers to woodland and water to rough. With such fantastic surroundings and imperious design, it’s easy to see why this golf course, located near Philadelphia makes the list. There are not many courses in the world that can intimidate, captivate and delight all in one round of golf.

Cypress Point Golf Club (Pebble Beach, California, USA)

Showcasing one of the most photographed holes in the world, the Cypress Point Golf Club is breathtaking, offering views of the Pacific ocean crashing against the rocks that surround it. Imagine teeing off on a par 3 knowing you have to cross the Pacific to reach the green…well here you can. A very exclusive club, it’s one worth boasting about if you get the chance to play it.

Old Course, St. Andrews (Fife, Scotland)

One of the oldest golf courses in the world and widely considered to be the ‘home of golf’, the Old Course, St. Andrews is a tough links course. Designed by nature itself, there are many facets to the course that take time to open themselves up to it’s visitors but once they do it can provide a delightful golfing experience. There is also the added feature of the famous 17th ‘road hole’ and the huge greens that await approach shots.

Royal County Down (Newcastle, Northern Ireland)

Nestled between the Mountains of Mourne and the Bay of Dundrum, Royal County Down is the quintessential links golf course. Winding it’s way through the heather and gorse bushes, the course seemingly offers up a different view on every tee and with small greens and tricky wind conditions, provides a stern test of any golfer. It can only be a matter of time before the organisers bring the Open Championship to this course and it receives the worldwide recognition it deserves.
